Why are fold mountain systems of the world located along the margins of continents?

Answer: Fold Mountains are formed through the process of folding of sediments along the convergent plate boundaries.

Although, there are there different types of convergent plateboundaries, namely oceanic - continental convergence, continental – continental convergence and oceanic – oceanic convergence, fold mountains formed specifically along the continental - continental convergence and oceanic - continental convergence only.
