Under what circumstances, President’s Rule can be proclaimed? What consequences follow when such declaration remains in force?

Answer: Indian Constitution has provided three different kinds of emergencies, to enable the Central Government to deal any abnormal situation effectively. It converts the federal government into unitary one whenever exigencies of situation demand.

  • Part xviii of the Constitution, from Article 352 to 360 provides different emergency provisions.
  • Article 356, empowers the president to impose President’s Rule, if he is satisfied that situation has arisen in which government of state cannot be carried in accordance with provisions of constitution.
