Explain the distribution of tropical evergreen forest and tropical thorn forest in India.

Answer: Forest refers to the plant community which has evolved according to the soil and climatic condition of that region.

  • Since, soil and climate varies from one place to another in India, a large variety of forests found here. They include tropical evergreen, tropical moist deciduous, tropical deciduous and thorn forests.
  • Tropical evergreen forests are generated in warm and humid areas with annual precipitation of over 200 cm and mean annual temperature above 220C. These types of climatic conditions are found along western slope of Western Ghats, hills of northeastern region and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
