GI Tag for Alphonso Mango from Konkan

The Alphonso mango from Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and other adjoining areas in Maharashtra have been accorded the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, as per Ministry of Commerce. The Konkan region has almost 110,000 hectareage under Alphonso orchards and produces mangoes worth Rs 30 billion annually, over 50 per cent of which are exported.

Climate

The mango will tolerate a wide range of climates, from warm temperate to tropical. It fruits best in areas of low rainfall and low relative humidity at flowering, fruit setting and harvest, and with a warm to hot climate during fruit development.The mango is susceptible to cold. Young ....
