​National Policy to Combat Left Wing Extremism

  • Under the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India, Police and Public Order are managed by State Governments.
  • The Government of India supplements State efforts in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas.
  • The National Policy and Action Plan (2015) adopts a multi-pronged strategy to address LWE, including security measures, development interventions, and ensuring rights and entitlements of local communities.
  • Security measures include provision of Central Armed Police Forces battalions, training and modernization funds for State police forces, equipment and arms supply, intelligence sharing, and construction of Fortified Police Stations.
