Jute Industry
- According to Indian Jute Mills Association (IJMA), there are approximately 93 jute mills in India.
- First jute mill in India was established in 1854 at Rishra (Calcutta).
- Under the provisions of the Jute Packaging Materials (Compulsory Use in Packing Commodities) Act, 1987, it has been made mandatory to pack 100% of food grains and 20% of sugar in jute bags.
