On 9th August, 2024, Abhinav Bindra, India's gold-medal shooter and Olympic icon, was elected as the Second Vice Chair of the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) Athletes' Commission.
- Bindra, who made history as India’s first individual Olympic gold medallist, has been a member of the Athletes' Commission since 2018.
- Following his election, Bindra expressed his dedication to advocating for athletes' interests worldwide and ensuring their voices are heard.
- The IOC announced that the new Athletes' Commission, elected by athletes at the Paris 2024 Games, met for the first time to choose its leadership.
- Emma Terho of Finland, a five-time Olympian, was re-elected as Chair of the Athletes' Commission.
- Maja Włoszczowska from Poland, a cyclist, was elected as Vice Chair alongside Bindra.
- The Chair and Vice Chairs of the Athletes' Commission will serve until the Winter Olympics in 2026.
- The Athletes' Commission is essential for representing the athletes' voice within the IOC and influencing key decisions at the highest level.
