Cabinet Approves Eight New Railway Projects

On 9th August 2024, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved eight new railway projects, aimed at enhancing logistical efficiency and connecting underserved regions.
Key Points
- Project Scope: The approved projects will expand the Indian Railways network by 900 km and include the construction of 64 new stations across 14 districts in seven states: Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Telangana, and West Bengal.
- Environmental Benefits: The initiatives are expected to reduce carbon emissions by 767 crore kg, equivalent to planting 30 crore trees.
- Economic and Logistical Impact: The projects will improve transportation of key commodities such as agricultural products, coal, iron ore, and cement, leading to a capacity increase of 143 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) for freight traffic.
- Focus on Tribal Regions: Tribal areas will receive significant benefits from these infrastructure developments, enhancing regional connectivity and economic growth.
