PM to Release Two New Cashew Hybrid Varieties

On 11th August, 2024, Prime Minister will unveil two new cashew hybrid varieties, ‘Nethra Jumbo-1’ and ‘Nethra Ganga,’ developed by the Directorate of Cashew Research (DCR), during an event in New Delhi.
Key Points
- ‘Nethra Jumbo-1’: Developed by Dr. Dinakara Adiga and his team, this variety features 12 gm nuts, with over 90% uniformity.
- It yields 29-30 kg of kernel per 100 kg of raw nuts, has a higher grade kernel (W130), and offers significant cost savings and additional profit due to its large size.
- ‘Nethra Ganga’: Created under Dr. Gangadhar Nayak, this variety weighs 12-13 gm, flowers within a couple of years, and produces nuts from December to April.
- It has a 29.5% kernel percentage, is suited for high-density planting, and yields over 5 kg per plant by the third year.
