Discuss the significance of Ayushman Bharat Scheme in achieving the goal of Universal Health Coverage.
Answer: Ayushman Bharat scheme aims to reduce the financial burden on poor and vulnerable groups arising out of catastrophic hospital episodes and ensure their access to quality health services. It also seeks to accelerate India’s progress towards achievement of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Sustainable Development Goal - 3 (SDG3).
It has following two components:
- Health and Wellness Centre: Nearly 1.5 lakh Sub-Centres and Primary Health Centres would be transformed as Health & Wellness Centres by 2022 to provide comprehensive and quality primary care services close to the community along with free essential drugs and diagnostic services.
