Answer: With the abrogation of Article 370, the vexed question of Article 35A has also come back to the spotlight. Article 35A used to give carte blanche to J&K state legislature to decide the permanent residents of the state and grant them special rights and privileges in state government jobs, acquisition of property, scholarship and other public welfare schemes.
Historical Events
Before 1947: J&K was a princely state ruled by Maharaja Hari Singh and its subjects were not under British control.
