  • In-situ Conservation: Conservation of species in their natural habitats. For example, national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, biosphere reserves etc.
  • Ex-situ: Preservation of components of biological diversity outside their natural habitats. For instance, Gene Banks (seed banks, sperm and ova banks, field banks), Captive breeding of animals and artificial propagation of plants, zoos, aquaria, botanical gardens etc.
