  • Distribution: Endemic to India. Spread along the coastal savannah, tropical lowland rain forests and montane forests up to an altitude of 2000 m above mean sea level.
  • Habitat: Arboreal and tend to live in hiding.
  • Threats: Habitat alteration and degradation.

Gooty Tarantula, Metallic Tarantula or Peacock Tarantula (Poecilotheri ametallica)

  • Distribution: Endemic to South India. First found in Gooty (Ooty/Udagamandalam).
  • Habitat: Wooded mountain area.
