- Dramatic Rise in Carbon Emissions: The accumulation of emissions to the environment over time is what has led to the current era of extreme carbon disparity. Between 1990 and 2015, annual carbon emissions climbed by almost 60% while total emissions released into the atmosphere since the middle of the 1800s nearly doubled.
