Answer: The geographical influence of left-wing extremism (LWE) had contracted to 46 districts in the country in 2021 from 96 districts in 10 states in 2010. The incidents of LWE violence had reduced by 70% to 509 in 2021 compared with the 2018-19 period.

The severely affected areas of India by LWE are known as ‘Red Corridor’. It extends across the states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

The threats associated with LWE are:
