India is among the top five sources of e-waste, which comprises all discarded items of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) and its parts. What are the challenges which India face in recycling E- Waste? Examine.

Answer: The ASSOCHAM-KPMG study, titled “Electronic Waste Management in India’’ identified computer equipment and mobile telephones as the principal e-waste generators in India. According to this study, computers contributed towards 70 per cent of the total e-waste generated in India, while telecommunication equipment accounted for 12 per cent.

Challenges which India faces in recycling are:

  • Lack of Infrastructure: The existing e-waste disposal facilities lacks environmentally sound technologies and still don’t get enough to recycle.
