Lala Lajpat Rai (1865-1928)
- Lala Lajpat Rai popularly known as 'Punjab Kesari', was born on 28th January 1865 in the Ludhiana District of Punjab.
- In 1886, he helped Mahatma Hansraj to establish the nationalistic Dayananda Anglo-Vedic (DAV) School in Lahore. He was also an active member of Arya Samaj.
- Lala Lajpat Rai was President of the Indian National Congress of Calcutta Special Session of 1920. Under his leadership, Congress supported Gandhi‘s plan for non-cooperation with the Government.
- In 1917, he started the "Indian Home Rule League of America" with its headquarters at Broadway, New York.
