India’s rank in global competitiveness has seen a consistent improvement since a few years. In the light of this statement highlight the factors fuelling this growth as well as the areas dragging India behind in global competitiveness.
Answer: Global competitiveness is the ability of a country to drive its productivity and economic success in a competitive and challenging world. In the most recent World Economic Forum’s (WEF) global competitiveness index,2018, India has been ranked 58thamong 140 countries.
Although India’s rank this year is 18 down from the previous year but this is due to change in calculation methodology. Going by the older method, India has gained by five ranks. As per WEF, this is the largest gain among all G20 economies and India is the leader among the South Asian economies.
