Conservation of flora and fauna is a global concern in the light of adverse climate change. At the same time the right to livelihood of forest dwellers is a genuine humanitarian issue. What steps have been taken to strike a balance?

Answer: To strike a balance between the rights of forest dwellers and issue of development government has taken following measures:

  1. National Forest Policy, 1988 recognises the symbiotic relationship between forests and forest-dwelling communities
  2. The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, was enacted to protect the marginalised socio-economic class of citizens and balance the right to environment with their right to life and livelihood.
