Recycling of E-Waste
- Steps have been taken to formalize the e-waste recycling sector, including the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2016, which mandates compulsory authorization of dismantling and recycling units by State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs)/Pollution Control Committees (PCCs).
- The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has issued guidelines for e-waste processing and monitors recycling units in collaboration with SPCBs and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
- CPCB issues directives under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, to curb informal e-waste activities, ensuring proper verification of authorized recyclers.
