World’s First 3D-Printed Rocket Engine
On May 30, 2024, Agnikul Cosmos, a Chennai-based aerospace start-up, successfully launched the Agnibaan Sub Orbital Technology Demonstrator (SOrTeD), the world’s first rocket powered by a fully 3D-printed engine.
- Launch Site: Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
- First launch powered by a semi-cryogenic engine in India.
- Launched from: ‘Dhanush’, India’s first private launch pad built by Agnikul Cosmos.
- Agnibaan is a mobile, small-lift launch system.
- Payload Capacity: 100 kg (220 lb) to a 700 km (430 mi) orbit.
