The Coalition of Coastal Cities
Recently, Delhi-based non-profit Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has launched a coalition of coastal cities to fight marine litter pollution across India.
- The estimated amount of marine litter in India is approximately 0.98 metric tonnes of trash per kilometer of coastline, with a concentration of 0.012 kilograms per square meter.
- Plastic accounts for 90 per cent of all the waste that ends up in the marine ecosystem.
- According to estimates, around 15,434 tonnes of plastic waste are leaked into South Asian seas every day, resulting in a staggering 5.6 million tonnes of plastic waste per year.
