In December 2024, the Union Ministry of Tourism has approved 40 projects worth Rs. 3,295.76 crore across 23 states to develop lesser-known tourist destinations.

- Part of the Special Assistance to States/UTs for Capital Investment (SASCI) Scheme.
- Aims to reduce congestion at major tourist spots, promote balanced tourism, boost local economies, and ensure sustainable development.
- The SASCI Scheme (2020-21) provides 50-year interest-free loans for state-led capital projects, including the development of Iconic Tourist Centres.
