State of the Rhino 2024 Report

The International Rhino Foundation (IRF) released the State of the Rhino 2024 Report on World Rhino Day (September 22, 2024).

1. White Rhino

  • IUCN Population Estimate: 17,464
  • Status: Near Threatened
  • Northern White Rhino: Functionally extinct (only two left in the world – both females)

2. Black Rhino

  • IUCN Population Estimate: 6,421
  • Status: Critically Endangered
  • Found in: 12 countries in Africa

3. Greater One-Horned Rhino

  • IUCN Population Estimate: 4,014
  • India’s Rhino Population: 3,262
  • Status: Vulnerable
  • Primary Range: India and Nepal, occasional presence in Bhutan
