PUNCH Mission

NASA's PUNCH (Polarimeter to Unify the Corona and Heliosphere) mission, launched on March 11, 2025, aims to study the Sun's corona and solar wind using four small satellites in low Earth orbit.

  • It will provide 3D observations to improve space weather predictions and understand solar phenomena.
  • Launch Vehicle: SpaceX Falcon 9
  • Launch Site: Vandenberg Space Force Base, USA

Objective

  • Study how the Sun’s corona transitions into solar wind
  • Understand solar wind structures and their effect on the solar system

How It Works

  • 4 suitcase-sized satellites act as one virtual instrument
  • Positioned near Earth’s terminator line for constant sunlight
