Kozhikode: India’s First UNESCO ‘City of Literature’
Kozhikode, Kerala, was designated as India’s first UNESCO City of Literature under the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN).
- The designation was made in October 2023, and officially announced on June 23, 2024.
- The recognition celebrates Kozhikode’s rich literary legacy and vibrant tradition of writers, poets, and literary festivals.
- Notable literary figures from the city include M.T. Vasudevan Nair and S.K. Pottekkatt, both Jnanpith awardees.
