Jal Hi Amrit Initiative
In October 2024, the Union Government launched ‘Jal hi Amrit’ initiative under AMRUT 2.0 to promote efficient wastewater management and water reuse.
Key Highlights
- Encourages States/UTs to establish Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and Used Water Treatment Plants (UWTPs).
- Ensures high-quality treated water for reuse in construction, industry, and irrigation.
- Introduces a rating-based incentive system, awarding Clean Water Credits to UWTPs based on performance, fostering inter-city competition.
About AMRUT 2.0
- Launched in 2021 to ensure universal water supply coverage and improve sewerage systems in all statutory towns.
- Expands on AMRUT 1.0 (2015) by incorporating water reuse and sustainability.
