Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024

The Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024 was released on September 26, 2024, marking its 17th edition.

  • It is published annually by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in collaboration with Portulans Institute, CII, and CNI.
  • The theme for GII 2024 was "Unlocking the Promise of Social Entrepreneurship."
  • The index evaluates 133 economies worldwide based on their innovation performance.
  • Switzerland ranked first for the 14th consecutive year, while Angola ranked last (133rd).
  • India ranked 39th in the GII 2024 (40th in 2023).
  • India is the most innovative economy in Central and South Asia and ranked first among 38 lower-middle-income countries.
