Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme 2024
In March 2024, the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) launched EMPS 2024 to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) adoption in India.
Background
- Follows a review of FAME II (2019), which succeeded FAME I (2015).
- Fund-limited scheme with a Rs. 500 crore outlay for four months (April 1 – July 31, 2024).
Objectives and Scope
- Focuses on promoting electric two-wheelers (e-2W) and three-wheelers (e-3W).
- Targets support for 3.72 lakh EVs (3.33 lakh e-2Ws and 0.38 lakh e-3Ws).
- Prioritizes commercially registered EVs but also extends benefits to corporate and private e-2Ws.
- Only advanced battery EVs qualify for incentives.
