Demands for New States
June 2024 marked ten years of the formation of Telangana (June 2, 2014) under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, with Hyderabad as its capital. The demands for statehood arise owing to regional inequalities in development.
- Recently, the Bhil tribe has demanded Bhil Pradesh, comprising parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
- Article 3 of the Indian Constitution empowers Parliament to create new states through ordinary legislation with Presidential recommendation and consultation with the affected state legislatures.
