​NASA Relaunches Spacecraft OSIRIS-APEx to Study Apophis

On 27th December, 2023, NASA announced that it has embarked on a renewed mission to study the asteroid Apophis, formerly known as OSIRIS-REx, by relaunching the spacecraft under the new name OSIRIS-APEx.

OSIRIS-APEx Mission

  • OSIRIS-APEx, a relaunched spacecraft, will study Apophis post its 2029 close approach, aiming to observe surface changes, orbit alterations, and potential seismic activity, offering insights into its composition and structure.
