NASA's AWE Mission to Decode Mysteries of Space Weather Drivers
On 9th November, 2023, NASA launched the Atmospheric Waves Experiment (AWE), a ground-breaking mission aimed at dissecting one of the significant contributors to space weather – Earth's own weather patterns.
- Gravity waves, like ripples on a pond, are atmospheric phenomena resulting from vertical displacement of stable air, often triggered by extreme weather.
- These waves, including Atmospheric Gravity Waves (AGW), are vital for weather, climate, and space weather dynamics.
- AGWs are mainly generated in stable atmospheres, where temperature differences cause rising air to create continuous rising and sinking motions, forming wave-like patterns.
- Meteorologists stress the need for vertical atmospheric profiling to gather data on gravity ....
