Lok Sabha’s Ethics Committee
In October 2023, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha referred a complaint against sitting Member of Parliament (MP) to the House Ethics Committee.
- The formation of the Ethics Committee in Parliament traces back to a resolution adopted at the Presiding Officers Conference in October 1996, urging legislatures to consider constituting such a committee.
- In the Lok Sabha, a study group recommended its establishment in 1997, but it wasn't taken up then.
- Eventually, the Committee of Privileges recommended its formation during the 13th Lok Sabha.
