Fediverse
Meta, the parent company for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, recently launched its Twitter (now X), rival Threads. Threads will be the company’s first app to join the fediverse - a network of servers operated by third parties.
- The fediverse comprises federated social networking services operating on decentralized networks with open-source standards.
- It's a network of servers run by third parties, facilitating communication across social media platforms.
- Meta's Threads plans to join, alongside existing platforms like Pixelfed, PeerTube, Lemmy, Diaspora, and others.
- The fediverse's decentralized nature gives users more control over content and interactions, enabling cross-platform communication.
