NCLAT upholds CCI’s Penalty on Google
On 29th March, 2023, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) upheld the penalty of Rs.1, 337 crore imposed on Google by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for its anti-competitive conduct in the Android ecosystem.
- The court quashed the directions relating to the non-monetary directives that would have forced the tech giant to allow uninstalling of Google’s pre-installed apps on Android devices.
About NCLAT
- It was constituted under Section 410 of the Companies Act, 2013 for hearing appeals against the orders of National Company Law Tribunal(s) (NCLT), with effect from 1st June, 2016.
