Lok Sabha Passes Competition (Amendment) Bill 2022
On 29th March, 2023, the Lok Sabha passed the Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which seeks to amend the Competition Act, 2002.
- The Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was originally introduced in Lok Sabha on August 5, 2022.
- Subsequently referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance headed by Jayant Sinha for examination and report.
Key Highlights
Regulation based on Merger and Acquisition
- It seeks to amend the Competition Act, 2002, to regulate mergers and acquisitions based on the value of transactions.
- Deals with transaction value of more than Rs. 2,000 crore will require Competition Commission of India’s (CCI) approval.
