Answer: Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) is a comprehensive multilateral agreement on intellectual property (IP). It came into force in January 1995 along with World Trade Organization (WTO). It includes various protections, rights and waivers given to intellectual properties in order to promote technological innovation as well as smooth legitimate trade of intellectual property.

  • Article 7 of TRIPS agreement itself says, the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights should contribute to the promotion of technological innovation and to the transfer and dissemination of technology, for the mutual advantage.
