  • The incoming short wavelength radiation from the Sun is absorbed by the Earth and re-emitted outwards as long wavelength radiation. The greenhouse gases in atmosphere like CO2, CH4; water vapor absorbs a part of this outgoing radiation and warms up. This is known as the green-house effect.
