Answer: Landslides are a form of mass waste under the direct influence of gravity.Initially all the masses, soil and debris along the slope are in static position but once triggered by earthquakes, floods, volcanoes, continuous rainfall or mining , they start moving downward under influence of gravity. Landslides may be caused due to both natural as well as human factors.

Though, landslides are common natural phenomenon found across all the hilly regions of India. However, the Himalayas are more prone to landslides. This is because:
