Natural vegetation refers to a plant community. It is of high significance as vegetation releases oxygen and sequesters carbon. Vegetation affects soil development over time, generally contributing to a more productive soil. It provides wildlife habitat and food. As per Forest Survey of India’s ‘State of Forest Report 2021’, very dense forests (canopy density over 70%) covers 3.04%, moderately dense forests (40-70%) covers 9.33% and open forests (10-40%) covers 9.34% of geographical area.
