An Interdisciplinary Perspective On With Current Affairs Inputs (Drainage System of India)

Indian drainage system consists of a large number of small and big rivers. The Himalayan drainage system includes the Ganga, the Indus and the Brahmaputra river basins. The peninsular plateau is drained by Narmada, Tapi, Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna and Kaveri rivers.

The Centre Government is contemplating creation of the National Interlinking of Rivers Authority (NIRA). NIRA is supposed to be an independent autonomous body for planning, investigation, financing and the implementation of the river interlinking projects in the country.
