Grievance Appellate Committee
On 2nd June, 2022, the Centre proposed setting up a grievance appellate committee to look into appeals filed by individuals against the decisions of grievance officers of social media platforms.
- The idea to constitute appellate committees has been proposed as an amendment to the controversial IT Rules, 2021.
About the Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021
- It mandates a grievance redressal system for over the top (OTT) and digital portals in the country.
- Social media platforms will also have to name a grievance officer who shall register the grievance within 24 hours and dispose of it ....
