Government sets up Panel on Digital Competition Law
On 7th February, 2023, the government constituted a 16-member inter-ministerial committee to examine the need for a separate law on competition in digital markets.
- The panel will be headed by Manoj Govil, Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA).
Terms of Reference
- It will study if existing provisions in Competition Act, 2002 and related regulations were sufficient to deal with the challenges in the digital economy.
- It will examine whether there was a need for a regulatory mechanism for digital markets through a separate legislation.
