Answer: When moderate politics failed at the end of the nineteenth century, resistance erupted from within Congress circles, and this new trend was the 'Extremists' trend which took a concrete shape by 1905. After 1905, the Extremists acquired a dominant influence over the Swadeshi Movement in Bengal.

Reasons for the rise:

  • Frustration with mainstream politics, undemocratic constitution under moderate leadership.
  • Most of Moderate demands were not met and failure in achievingany noteworthy achievement
  • The division of Bengal in 1905 revealed the true colours of the British rulers to the Indians.
