Answer: In general, secularism refers to separating religion from political, economic, social and cultural aspects of life and therefore religion should be treated as a purely personal matter.

However the concept of secularism is not uniform across the nations. For instance western state adopted a model where “State” and the “religion” have their own separate spheres and neither the state nor the religion shall intervene in each other’s affairs. Thus, there is complete separation between the religion (the Church) and the state (the politics). This is negative concept of secularism.
