Reasons behind rise of Jainism and Buddhism

  • The rigid caste structure, complicated rites, the priggish Priesthood, ceremonies and societal inequity (rigid caste system) forced people to think beyond the box in the Later Vedic period.
  • The Vaisyas' after their improved economic situation and the merchant class were the primary supporter of these new religions as they now desired to raise their social rank, but was un-conventional to Varna system.
