Answer: There have been several areas identified as a matter of dispute between Centre and State relations:

  • Mode of appointment and dismissal of Governor
  • Discriminatory and partisan role of Governor
  • Imposition of President's rule for partisan interest
  • Reservation of states bill for consideration of president
  • Discrimination is financial allocation to states

In this regard, Government of India had appointed a three-member commission under the chairmanship of R. S. Sarkaria which submitted its report in 1987. The commission made 247 recommendations to improve Centre-state relations.
