Answer: According to Corruption Perception Index, 2020, India ranked 80th position among 180 countries in regard to public service corruption. This ranking of India is almost same from last three years without any sign of improvement.

This widespread corruption in India is attributed to several factors such as:

  • Exclusivist process of decision making
  • Rigid bureaucratic structure
  • Absence of effective control mechanism
  • Social acceptability and tolerance for corruption
