Answer: Right to healthy environment is a human right which aims to ensure protection and conservation of environment from degradation. It is based on the observation that a clean or healthy environment is indispensable requirement for living a dignified or healthy life.

  • For the first time protection of environment was discussed in Stockholm Conference in 1972. Later in 1983, Brundtland Commission was established by United Nation which laid down the concept of sustainable development.
  • On the basis of the report of Brundtland Commission, in 1992 Earth Summit was held which adopted Agenda 21 to ensure sustainable development.
