100 years of Public Accounts Committee

On 4th December, 2021, President inaugurated the Centennial Year Celebration of Public Accounts Committee in the Central Hall of Parliament House.

About Public Accounts Committee (PAC)

  • The committee was first conceived in the year 1921 in the wake of Montagu-Chelmsford Reforms.
  • In 1950, the country became republic and the committee became a parliamentary committee functioning under the control of the Speaker of Lok Sabha with a non-official chairperson.
  • The Public Accounts Committee is now constituted every year under Rule 308 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha.
